Thunder-Max and the V-Rod experiences

This will be a thread for members to post up their personal experiences with the Thunder-Max and their V-Rod. I was just sent a shipment of them for members here and over there, So soon enough lots of members will have these installed. Lets keep this thread to pro's and con's / question's and answer's about the Thunder-Max only please.

I installed one on a 2007DX and the owner has over 1,000 miles now.

THE BAD

The only issue he has had is a surging between 2-300 RPM'a when the engine is hot and the bike is first started. It will surge up and down for 5 to 30 seconds if the throttle is left alone. If you give it gas it resumes normal idle. It only did it when it was hot and it would only do it occasionaly. I believe this is an IAC adjustment and all will be good.

THE GOOD

The gas milage increased.... about 3-4 mpg anyway. The DX has a Thunderheader and K&N and topless. There is NO DECELL POP. You can let off the throttle at any speed, gear, RPM and there is no backtalk from the pipes... Sounds kinda like an Indy Car. When you hit the start button the bike immediately comes to life.

The T-Max is a complete ECU that replaces your stock ECU. You will need to have 02 bungs in your headers for the O2 sensors to have the Auto-tune feature. Took total install time about 2 hours. The owner has not had to even open the base that that was installed for any reason. NO tweaking of any kind.

There are software/firmware up-dates that will need to be installed in the future (to keep units current) and this can be done with a lap-top while the T-Max is installed.

I've been watching this for a while. From all that I have read, it should be relatively easy to physically install on a bike. The exhaust system needs to have 2 O2 ports. You're swapping one ECM for another and connecting O2 sensors to the exhaust.

You can send me a PM for the special member price. Retail is $889.00.

It is less than 2 hours to install. The T-Max replaces the stock ECU. It is a stand alone system that works with the Auto-tune feature. Here is another thread about the Thundermax

Finally got to put some serious miles on my Thunder-Max. (02 rod. Trask Turbo, 17" wheels) Put 1000 miles on this weekend, Left in rain and 50 degree temps. Went from 2300 ' elevation to 7000 back down to 3200'. Trip back, a day later, featured temps in the low 80's same elevation changes. Cruised between 60 and 90 mph with in town riding at both ends.

Bottom line, bike ran great! No stutters, surges or falters. Runs cleanly from idle on up. Mileage varied from mid 30's at 80-90 to a solid 40 at 70; same as before with SERT. Gone is the off idle/ low speed cruise surge/stutter.

BTW this is with 30 tooth pulley and the 17" wheels. I believe this would result in gearing equal to a 29 tooth pulley. Right now I am very happy with the Thunder-Max system. No, I dont work for them just a v-rodder who loves his bike and spends way to much money modifying!

800 miles on t/max install , install was easy,Software and base map loading very simple , no issues at all bike runs great ,ridden in 15 miles of dense fog ,temps from 40 to 80 deg ,stuck in traffic with 5 mile back up, no electrical glitches .no Idle issues and no decel pop at all .no lag when hard roll ons bike runs strong and starts easy, also bike runs smooth under 2500 rpm in any gear , 2008 DX SE air filter ,supertrapp fatshots 15 disks . also nice to have the ability to log data and send it to Zippers support for review and fix if a problem pops up.

Just about 3000 mile on the thundermax /Autotune now the bike just runs great not one single issue ,the bike pulls hard and strong from 2000 to rev limit, I even done some exhaust changes with no issues , Ive found that I like the torque with my fatshots with 13 disks the 0 to 100 mph feels just perfect for me with this setup. Install and go ,no tune ,no dyno Thundermax A+ product thanks Sharky
